Decorating To Grow — Children’s Furniture That Grows With Your Child
When you’re expecting a new arrival to your family, it is easy to get caught up in looking at cute children’s furniture and designing their room. While there are hundreds of ways you can decorate, it is important to think of the future before you hand over your hard earned money.
Children’s furniture is easily and quickly outgrown…quicker than you think! That gorgeous crib you simply must have may be perfect for now, but how long will they actually be using it before you have to get rid of it? And that posh changing table may fit your design plans, but once the diapers are history, the table becomes…well, just another thing to pass on to someone else.
Instead, why not design a room that will grow right along with your child? There are many pieces of children’s furniture that are designed to adapt to growing kids through many stages of their lives, and that will last much longer than children’s furniture intended for just one stage of growth.
Many crib designers have created pieces that transform into daybeds, junior beds, small sofas or twin beds. Many of them come with side rail kits or extensions to make them easy and safe to transform. Generally, you just have to remove the slatted sides of the crib to transform it into a toddler bed, which is smaller than a twin and still uses a crib sized mattress. When they get a little older, you can attach the back of the crib back on to create a small daybed. some even have the option of a trundle bed, so that your child can have friends sleep over.
Another piece of children’s furniture that has been modified for growth is the changing table. You can find changing tables that transform into a storage chest, and use that to keep toys or blankets stored in your child’s room. Another useful piece of furniture for your nursery is an armoire. This can be used for storage when your child is a baby, and as they grow they can use it for their clothes, and then eventually for a television or video game console as they get older.
Why redecorate every few years? Make things easier on yourself and look for children’s furniture that can grow along with them. You will save money, and get to enjoy the pieces you so carefully choose for much longer.
