If you’re looking to buy discount bedroom furniture, one option is to hit the thrift stores, yard sales, online auctions and estate sales for used furniture. Here’s how to know what items are worth buying, and how to fix them up when you do.

First, look at what the furniture is made of. You want something that is made from good materials. A dresser that is made of particle board just isn’t worth fixing up…you’d be better off buying one new at a discount bedroom furniture store.

Make sure you sand the furniture before you paint or stain it. Think about all of the different techniques you could use to compliment the style of the item as well as the overall look you want for your bedroom. You can create an antique finish, decoupage, crackle finish, or just plain paint or stain it any hue you like. Be sure to seal it with polyurethane afterwards to protect the finish and make it last longer.

If you find a bedside table that has good bones but a top that is in bad condition, you can make a new top easily. You can cover the top with pictures, postcards, or even game boards. Or, think about having a piece of mirror cut and place it on the top. If yo find a bedframe that has a headboard you don’t like, you can easily cover it with fabric to spice it up. Cover the headboard with upholstery foam and then place batting overtop. Then cover it with your fabric, and staple it to th back of the headboard.
